Cowboys in Fort Worth

Post by PawPaw »

My wife, grandson and I are currently in Fort Worth Texas, competing at the Texas State Championship of Cowboy Fast Draw. Some of the best shooters in Cowboy Fast Draw are here competing, and the local news station came by yesterday to do a local color spot.

I got eliminated yesterday, about 1:00 pm, but today is a new day. Grandson is still alive and has a chance to bring home a trophy.

Figures I'm out of town. Otherwise that would have been fun to come watch y'all compete. Hope he does well today.

My lady won 3rd place in her bracket. Blue Eyed Belle is the 3rd Place Women's Shooter in the Deputies bracket, Texas State Championships. This is where you draw a .45 Colt revolver, thumb-cock that thing, and hit a target at 21 feet. She's doing it in about 1.3 seconds, over and over again.

Fandson won his bracket. He's the First Place, Youth One-handed, Gunfighter bracket, Texas State Championship. He's also using a .45 Colt revolver, Thumb cockinng that sucker, and hitting his target in under a second. His best time today was 0.574 of a second.

Tomorrow, we push the reset button and start over. Tomorrow is the Southern Territorials.

Whooo Hoo! Sierra Hotel! Pass along congratulations.
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

Grandson topped off his most excellent weekend by taking 5th place in the Southern Terrirorials match.

I didn't write down his fastest time in the finals, but it was in the neighborhood of 0.580, to draw, cock, fire, and hit the target. When you consider that the standard eye-blink takes about 0.400, that ain't bad at all.

That's pretty doggone good for a kid that's only been shooting for, what, a year or less? Give him a couple more seasons, he's gonna be tough to beat in ANY bracket!

ETA: And I'm not missing the part where the TEXAS state champ in that class is a LOUISIANA boy!!!

Very nice -- pass along congratulations.

I'm a maybe swipe the original thread title, if no one objects -- there's a story about "vowboys" waiting to be written, I think.

Actually, there is a lot of that sort of thing that happens. If a state organization puts on a championship, and everyone knows that it's going to be a good time, folks show up from everywhere. At this particular shoot, we had 26 clubs represented, from virginia to California and Idaho to Texas. Over a hundred shooters participated, literally from age 8 to almost age 80. This is one sport that knows no age limitations after age 8.

I have no objection; it was a typo, but it would be interesting to see what you have in mind.
