Devil Dog Arms stolen valor

Post by Cybrludite »

The turd-burglar running Devil Dog Arms admits to stealing valor. Having been caught, he's shut down the company.

Never heard of them until this posting. But, he seems like a full-on turd. Not only did he steal the valor, but he hired people who are now out of work. What a douche.

Well, glad he was found out and all, but I never heard of them. I thought this was going to be about some Marine whose collection was jacked or something.

BTW - do you which one of our enemies called Marines "Devil Dogs"? Anyone, anyone at all?

Yep, that is right, absolutely no one. Some reporter made it up and it stuck.

Pretty sure that's what Vonz was referring to with "some reporter made it up and it stuck." That reporter being Floyd Gibbons, IIRC.

The Germans generally didn't make up cute nicknames for their enemies, another famous example being calling the bekilted Scots "the Ladies from Hell." Or in WW2, calling the P-38 "the Fork-Tailed Devil." Someone thought it up, decided it sounded cool and ran with it. There's never a German source, it's always some Allied reporter.

I don't understand how people think they are going to get away with things like this.

But then again, we had a First Officer that was a pathological liar and claimed he was a National Guard F-16 driver and an FDNY volunteer, and repeated those claims to the ALPA magazine folks that wrote an article about him. It fell apart when people in the NY National Guard unit he claimed started talking amongst themselves in a forum, going "who the F is this guy?" His story fell apart from there.

Being an airline pilot just wasn't cool enough? Sad.

It may sound corny to talk about pilot egos, but it seems that there are those who are proud of doing the flying they actually do, and those who will never be a fighter jock and spend the rest of their lives compensating for that self-perceived deficiency with all manner of unhealthy methods.

Had an unpleasant encounter with a self-proclaimed "NAVAL AVIATOR" when, via the weird connections of social media, a flame war he was in showed up on my dash. This guy came across as an absolute nutcase. His respect for female veterans was non-existent (there's misogyny, Msogyny™, and there's this guy), he tough-talked about himself like he was a career trigger-puller, and posted porn gifs in between corrupted alt-right Facebook memes. However, his "about" section mentioned first that he was a naval aviator, which seemed a bit odd since his user pic is apparently himself shooting an AR-15 while wearing ACU pants and an Army PT shirt. In the context of all his tough talk, the "flying, fighting sheepdog" smelled fishy.

As it turns out when asked directly: He was a career P-3 driver, then C-9s and C-12s. Y'know what all three of those aircraft have in common? Being land-based. So it sure would explain his behavior if it boiled down to joining the Navy to be a shit-hot, carrier-catapulted NAVAL AVIATOR flying right into the Danger Zone, then getting stuck in a fat, land-based plane with an inferiority complex. I'd almost feel bad for the guy if he wasn't such a raving douche. His excuse on the mismatched Army gear was... odd.

I am not going to defend the douche baggery, but I have a fair amount of Army gear that the Navy issued to me at various times. I especially got a lot from the A'stan deployment where I was in an Army billet wearing Army uniforms with Army guys working for me (but my name tape did say US Navy).

He may be blowing smoke on that, but it is not on the face unreasonable.

I also have been issued Army woodland BDU's while serving in the Navy. The first thing my Chief did was get out his pocket knife and remove the U.S. Army tape over the pocket. Then they issued me some Jarhead covers that did not have the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor printed on them. I still have one around here somewhere.

It's a shame this guy destroyed his business because he felt the need to lie about his experiences. I wonder if he ever just considered that he could have done this without the shit show. The fallout from this will pretty effectively kill any reorganization he might be planning.
