Interesting find at a local antique store

Post by Dub_James »

Stumbled across a larger-than-scale M1 Garand cutout mockup, with functioning charging handle and trigger components. Must have been used for classroom training, as the whole thing is about 5-5.5 feet long! Only the steel parts, no furniture. Would probably be 7 foot long if it did!

Pics when I can get them. Anyone ever seen something like that?

A shop I used to work at had a BAR version of that. Used to hang over the front steps. It was about 7 feet long, IIRC.

The shop owner was a retired AF L/Col, he said he picked it up in a bunch of junk at a DRMO sale.
But there ain't many troubles that a man caint fix, with seven hundred dollars and a thirty ought six."

Did you buy it?

A gun shop that I once frequented prior to them trying to screw a buddy had one of those large-scale BARs. He let me eject the mag and work the charging handle and all sorts of stuff.

I've seen pictures of WWII training class rooms with a large scale Garand mockup
...even before I read MHI, my response to seeing a poster for the stars of the latest Twilight movies was "I see 2 targets and a collaborator".

Sadly not. Price was $500.

That's a good price.

There are 10,000 rifles for every training aid. I've seen a couple, but never one for sale.

I'm sure you could move it for more than that at auction if you got tired of it

The National Guard unit back home had a full set, Garand and BAR, maybe a 1903. The army used them as training aids.

No doubt. I lack initial investment capital, unfortunately :(
