Well, I found a source of relatively inexpensive firearms in Canuckistan, and I've started contacting some people in order to import the firearms into the United States.
Even though they are worth less than $250 USD, I think that the importer will have to file a formal entry through a broker.
As I go through this thread, I'll keep updating the process. I live right by the border, so, it should be pretty easy.
The avalanche has already started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote.
Not any FFL dealer can import a firearm. It requires a special importation license.
Most of these imported firearms were $5k and above. The costs and paperwork involved convinced me that it wasn't worth the hassle for anything less than $5k.
I would be interested to know how your experience goes. Please be sure to keep us updated on the steps you have to go through and costs involved.
Good luck!

I looked into this some time ago. It seems that not just any US FFL can import firearms to the US - they must also have a special licence to be an importer. The licence is such a PITA to get and maintain, that it is only worth it for importing (a) a very high-value item once or (b) many lower value items for profitable resale.
There are various licensed importers who will handle imports for customers for a fee, but the fees are usually prohibitive, unless categories (a) or (b) above apply.
