Ruger Precision Rifle

Post by Darrell »

This place needs some gun posts!!! ;)

Ruger has announced their latest offering--the Ruger Precision Rifle. It's a bolt action in .308, 6.5 Creedmoor, or .243 Win. It does appear to have some ARish features. It takes several types of magazines, using some sort of adapter, I think. MSRP is $1,399. Scroll down the page a bit for video:

To borrow a phrase from HTRN, I know what those words mean individually, but together they make no sense.

I am in love with it...

I fully expect a street price near $1000 and I should be able to get one for under $900

Well, Bill's dead. A predictably precise rifle is a possibility. We'll see.

Interesting. If I were in the market, I'd be looking closely at that one. Looking at the specs for the .243 (one of my favorite calibers) it looks like they got the twist right for those lovely, long, 105 grain MatchKings.

Yes, but once again, they've screwed up and put the bolt handle on the wrong side! When, oh when, will they ever learn?

There's a small rental fee..

I will say, I have seen Ruger bolt action shoot bughole groups, but that's after rechambering, rethreading, and refacing the muzzle.

We've got two Model 77s, just plain hunting rifles in .25-06 that will easily bust MOA, and these rifles are the original, wood-stocked, unbedded, standard M77s. Bughole groups on a good day, but day-in-day-out, they'll bring home the venison.

I am pretty impressed with the barrel on my American rimfire, if they had chambered it tighter would be better. They're claiming 0.7" average groups with Hornady ammo, and I expect thats accurate to what the rifles can do. Im interested in one in 6.5. I will wait and see what they price out to. Should be a good learning rifle.

I've got a M77-MkIILH, in .30-06 that will group under an inch with handloads, and will go 1-1/2 inches with every factory ammo I've tried in it, from 150 to 180 gr. bullets. It's got a Bell&Carlson stock, but only because the factory stock was so nice that I didn't want to ruin it. The B&C is more durable, but doesn't help the accuracy.
