Texan loses collection of mint Colts in Ohio

Mike Thompson said he was visiting his daughter in Grove City and stopped for lunch with his wife at the Frisch’s Big Boy off I-270 and Broadway. He said he came outside and saw that someone broke the window to his car and stole his guns.
He said he brought the collection with him because the new safe he ordered had not arrived yet.
“I didn’t want to leave them down there (in Texas) while we were gone,” Thompson said. “I brought them up here and was going to put them in a safe up here, but we didn’t make it home with them.”
Look for no-longer-mint Colts at crackhouses and drops in the coming months.

Yea, no. Charge him with leaving an unsecured firearm in his vehicle. Dumbass.

So he's got no gunnie friends back home he could trust to store them for him? (Been there, done that on both sides, especially while on active duty and TDYs popping up with no warning).
Or a (or a few) safe deposit boxes? Certainly much cheaper than the probable cost of the firearms, not to mention the $15K reward.

Yep. Not sure exactly what the angle is (what exactly was stolen from the car, and how does it compare with what he *claimed* was stolen from the car, etc) but there is no way fraud is not involved in this somehow.

Because you can't lock glass. Nothing behind locked glass is secured. Want to secure a gun in your car? Leave it in a case attached to the frame. Glovebox. Locked center console. Locked trunk, ffs.
Seriously, not knowing how to secure a firearm should null and void any claim on insurance.

We are required to report our tragic boating accidents (within 48hrs I believe).
