They're cheap too, usually going for around 1500 bucks on the open market.

The reason why is simple. The 18s are post 86(by only a coupla months in some cases), so unless you have an FFL with an SOT, buying one is not happening.

Personally, I'd love to see a select fire model 20..

A better idea than a Micro-Uzi, but still not very useful.

There have been a number of machine-pistol designs over the years, but not many made it onto the ATF registry, so they sell for stupid prices when they do come up for sale. All of them group worse than a shotgun with cylinder bore and 00 buck.

It was an interesting design. The "z" version was semi-auto only. The original VP70 could accept a shoulder stock. When the shoulder stock was installed, it became select-fire.

Original VP70s are only found as Pre-86 Dealer Samples. A few VP70Z models were modified by smiths to accept the shoulder stock (which had the selector switch), and were put on the transferable registry.

As a semi-auto, it was big, clunky, and heavy, even with the plastic frame.

The trigger was very heavy. The trigger block safety was superfluous. The heavy trigger was the safety. ADs were virtually impossible with the VP70. My trigger finger gave out after about 3 or 4 magazines.

Believe it or not, but there was at least 1 smith doing conversions on model 20s. Recoil was described as "brisk"

Give the right compensator design, it might be contriollable... Ish...

Isn't that what a MAC-10 is for?
