My father has just told me he plans to fix the septic system with a 12 gauge. The leech field isn't working and needs holes added.

This is a classic example of the Northern New Mexico School of Engineering

And obviously where I get it from.

Punching a few extra holes in the system is going to fix it - AT LEAST IN THE SHORT TERM!!

Heh! That's one solution, short term at best although I'm not familiar with desert septic systems. My experience tends to run to swamp septic systems.

I think though, the holes in the leaching field are supposed to be pointing down, not up...

But I do appreciate and understand the sentiment.

I knew a man once, who tried to clear a blocked leach field with a half-stick of dynamite.

Probably would have been okay if his wife hadn't just redone all the bathrooms.

By the way, he looks a lot like my dad, about 20 years ago, which is kinda scary.
