KelTec KSG Compact 14 Round SHOTGUN

Post by 308Mike »

Has anyone handled or shot this thing??? I've been seeing in advertised in my American Rifleman magazines for a while now, and here's a link to KelTec's web page on the product.

I REALLY like the idea of 14 rounds in the tube, and not having the tube stick out two feet beyond the end of the barrel (from the KelTec site):

Image

Here's the technical specs and description on the shotgun (at least according to their site, there's no restriction on CA purchases - YET):
Caliber 12 gauge 3”
Barrel length 18.5"
Total capacity 6+6+1
Weight empty 6.9lbs
Weight loaded 8.5lbs
Length 26.1"
Height 7"
MSRP $990.00

Description

This simple and reliable pump action feeds from either the left or right tube. The feed side is manually selected by a lever located behind the trigger guard.

The pump includes an under picatinny rail for the mounting of a forward grip, a light, or a laser. The included top picatinny sight rail will accept many types of optics or iron sights. Forward and rear sling loops are built in, and a basic sling is included. The soft rubber butt pad helps to tame recoil.

The KSG receiver is made from hardened steel and includes the magazine tubes which have been welded in place. The grip and stock assembly is made of glass reinforced nylon (Zytel) and is easily disassembled by pushing out 2 pins, which store in 2 holes in the grip when removed. The barrel and pump assembly is removed by loosening the 2 front magazine tube nuts with a coin and sliding the assembly forward.

Doesn't fix the primary problem of reloading, just postpones it.

Same as with any firearm. I'll take it.

Chris: I actually like it better that it's a pump.

Have they fixed the issues with this and the PMR30 yet?

Its a neat idea. Its not without problems.

From what I have gathered from reviews/articles:
- Its harder to load because the loading gate area is not quite as wide as the magazines
- The magazine selector is a lever on the back of the pistol grip, and has a 'middle' position that makes the magazine shell releases and the lifters not engage on either magazine.
- The magazine selector does not always engage positively, combining with the above to induce misfeeds
- The loading gate area is aft of the grip, introducing ergonomic weirdness.
- Kel-tec still isn't shipping them in quantity as of last I heard (nigh a year ago, tho..)

You mean the problem with not having any for sale anywhere, or the other problems?

And I found another article in the FEBRUARY 2014 issue of the American Rifleman magazine, on page 60, which describes and reviews basically the SAME THING. It's called the UTS-15 Shotgun (NOT the NRA review, which is not published online for the public, but is available on page 60/61 of the February 2014 issue of the American Rifleman magazine) (IF you have a valid subscription).

Even if you don't have a valid NRA membership, perhaps reviewing many of their articles in their magazine(s) might help induce you to want to join!!!

BOTTOM LINE: The more people the NRA has membership, the less they have to BEG to get laws passed in their favor, rather than they have laws they are trying to get passed to fight all the BS laws being enacted/enacted which HURT law-abiding firearms owners and carriers!!!!

If EVERY GUN-OWNING person belonged to the NRA, we wouldn't be BEGGING congresscritters to help support bills to help our positions!!! IF EACH AND EVERY SINGLE PERSON who bought a firearm actually paid a few extra buck to join the NRA at the time of purchase of a firearm, we'd have MORE members than EVER BEFORE, and Congress would not even TRY to ignore our membership desires to make sure WE'D ALL be able to protect ourselves, IN ALL 57 (if you're John Kerry) STATES, INCLUDING the DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA!!!

The NRA protects MORE than the 2nd Amendment - they help protect ALL the amendments, 'cause without the Second Amendment, the others are easily brushed aside and pushed away. There's NOTHING to stop those in charge to bury the rest of our Bill of Rights (which SHOULD BE a "Bill of Government RESTRICTIONS")!!!

If I wanted a high cap semi auto shotgun, I'd go for a VEPR 12. They're about a thousand bucks, though.
