Highland deer stalking gun

So last year I had a great time deer stalking in Scotland, Glen Isla to be exact, and I invited Doc Russia to join this year.
He had a great time whacking 12 bambis. They are calling him the Deeranatior up there now, no fooling.
I alas missed out as on the first day and the first stalk I tore my ligament and spent 4 hours getting off the mountain and 50 minutes driving to Perth to find a hospital.
None of which is my point.
We are returning next year and as we used borrowed Blasers in 6.55x55 and .276 which worked just fine, we were shooting from further away than I did last year where the ghillie got us up to 30 yards away in the middle of the herds. Now that we are 100-150 yards off the wind is a factor and Doc and I both think a .308 is in the cards.
Since it is a target rich environment Doc ran out of ammo a few times and missed shots and the same happened to me last year. I was thinking the Ruger Scout rifle which we will then suppress. Put some good glass on it and presto.
Thoughts? Better suggestions for a common caliber, high capacity, bolt action to drag through the vertical swamp that is the Scottish Highlands?
