Thames Arms Co. .38 info?

Post by Rich »

A friend in Indiana has inherited a Thames Arms Co. revolver. She didn't describe the condition, so I assume some wear (fair to good). It is marked Thames Arms, Norwich Conn, Patent 1902. It holds 5 rounds in it's cylinder and while she didn't say, after looking at that company's .32 revolvers, probably functions along the same lines as a Webley. She and her husband also have two partial boxes of .38 Peters and Western (possible S&W) they received along with the revolver.

She would like to get some more information about it. I googled what info she gave me, and got the impression that this was a inexpensive revolver that could fall into the "Saturday Night Special" class of handguns. I suspect they may want to sell it, as they are not shooters or collectors, and already sell antiques and furniture as a sideline.

According to my "2003 Standard Catalog of Firearms": "A .22, .32, or .38 caliber revolver with varying barrel lengths normally marked 'Automatic Revolver' which refers to the cartridge ejector. Nickel plated with walnut groups."

Poor $50
Fair $75
Good $100
Very Good $200
Excellent $500

Those prices seem pretty optimistic to me.

If I stumble on any more info, I'll post later. Standard Catalog was next to the desk.

I just googled "Thames Revolver" (without the quotes) and got several hits.

Most informative:

And the chambering would be .38 S&W not Special.
