I saw the videos he put on the Internet a while back where he's taking down targets from pretty far out with no sights on the pistol. I checked his website, and at first glance there's some stuff about how his techniques are supposed to work with MMA techniques, which makes zero sense and sets off a BS detector despite his proficiency.
I gather this is a regimented point shooting program? Have people found it worthwhile?

Do you have a link for those who wish to see what you're talking about?

A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

Re: Middlebrooks' Fist-Fire, the real deal?
I googled around a bit, and found a review from a 2 day class at THR. The reviewer said it was interesting, and he would give it a chance to see if it helps him, but he wasn't sure after the class if he was a true convert yet.
From what I can tell with my limited knowledge it's some sort of pointshooting. Those that teach it are obviously skilled shots, but how much is the system itself, and how much is just lots of training, I have no way to know.
It seems as if this is the site for the system:
http://www.tacticalshooting.com/
There's also a few YouTube videos if you search for 'Fist Fire', made by a critic of the system that claims to be able to do the same thing as the system does, without any of it's training, just by picking up a gun without sights and try it. Link to a video
I have no way of evaluating the claims of either of them.

From the FAQ on his web site:
I don't think repeated muzzle-contact gutshots represent 'helplessness,' but hey - I don't have 700 IDPA wins to my name.If someone is in your face, for example, you’re helpless with the other stances because you cannot get the weapon out to full extension.
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.

ive seen the guy do other videos too, im pretty sure its real and that it is possible.
you can do the same thing without formal training if you are willing to go though about 5000+ rounds a year practicing it.

When I trained for it they called it "speed rock". I don't know what the kids call it these days...workinwifdakids wrote:From the FAQ on his web site:

Right, I didn't doubt he was actually doing it, but it could have been an example of sick amount of talent and/or training time, rather than principles that could be absorbed in a relatively short period of time.mekender wrote:ive seen the guy do other videos too, im pretty sure its real and that it is possible.

I think you may be in for a combo of the two. It sure is impressive though. I do ok point shooting, but it took a lot of practice.

I understand Middlebrooks' technique to be position based.
Point shooting need not be position based. I don't see a reason to learn his stuff.
