First things first, scopes need rings. Rings for Brno rifles do not exactly grow on trees. Fortunately, Burris makes very nice, solid, all-steel combined ring/bases for the CZ 550 rifle, which uses a dovetail and locking-lug arrangement with the same dimensions as that of its ZKK ancestors.
Fitting the first set of rings was uneventful, except for the fact that the nifty pop-up rear aperture sights on ZKK rifles stand a little proud of the receiver, and require a shallow relief cut (less than 2mm) on the bottom of the Burris bases. You can just see how the sight stands a tiny bit proud of the level of the receiver. Many ZKK owners take the sight out so that they can fit scope bases flat to the receiver. Then they lose the part... that's why you frequently see these rifles missing their original rear sights

I prefer to use the Burris bases, which can easily be altered to fit above the original sight (which is also how the original Brno / Zeiss scope mounts were designed). Making the relief cut took some little work with my Swiss-Army files,* and a spot of cold-blueing solution to finish the bare metal. Here's a picture of the base, with the relief cut, sitting snugly on the rifle. It's rather dark, because of the scope above, which is blocking the available light...
Alas, when I went to measure up the second set of rings for the relief cut, I realised that they didn't fit correctly - the width of the body of the bases was insufficient to reach across the receiver ring and bridge. The attachment screw would just go in, but they would not lock down properly. Here's a photo.
Around lunchtime (for me) today, I fired off an e-mail to Burris' customer service, attaching a description and photos of the problem. Within a quarter of an hour, I had a reply, telling me to return the faulty rings for a replacement. All this before 7am Mountain Time for Burris in Colorado. I am impressed! I liked Burris' scope rings before. Now I like their customer service too. Recommended.
* Swiss Army files. I kid you not - a few years ago, I bought as many new or barely-used Swiss Army-surplus files as I could afford at the army-surplus store in Thun. They are brilliant, and I wish I had had more Swiss Francs with me at the time...
