It may not match, but is is better? Is it large enough? Just having a safe in time ought to be fine for the coppers and straighten out the snafu after, at the Krauts expense.

Well, the safe manufacturer says it would still be suitable as a gunsafe, but the one originally advertised would be better... I'm waiting for the army guy to get in touch (hopefully today), so we can figure what went wrong.
So, I finally got the gentleman from the German army on the phone...
The safe which was picked up from the army is indeed the one that they wanted to sell. However, the details they uploaded to the online auction corresponded to another (higher-security) safe with the same external dimensions. In other words, there was an unintentional "bait and switch".
Since I need a safe in a hurry, I've told the safe company to go ahead and service the one they have (which they say is sufficient to my purposes), and I'll negotiate with the government-surplus selling agency to see if they'll give me back some of the purchase price.
One bit of good news - since the safe is of a lower security grade than the one advertised, the walls and door are somethat thinner, so the space inside is larger, so there's more room for guns (or perhaps that should be "room for more guns")!
ETA: Wohoo! I made "Trigger Junkie" rank. When did that happen?
Would whoever is sticking pins in a voodoo doll of my gunsafe please stop now?
The safe people have serviced it, and it is ready to be delivered. The specialist movers come to Belgium in odd-numbered weeks of the year. I, however, won´t be at home in an odd-numbered week until the middle of September. Arg...

So, in the end, it devolves to a math problem.
