Should be pretty useful sectional density in that weight at 7mm.

Sectional density is .273 for the 154 gr. RN, as opposed to .226 for the 150 gr. RN used in 30/30s.
Now, if I can just find some! Apparently, Hornady has dropped them from inventory. If anyone runs across a box or two, (it's Hornady #2835) please let me know!!
Since it's out of production, I can almost guarantee that it will be the one she wants to shoot for the rest of her life.
(Y'know, some days its just not worth the effort to chew through the restraints!)

Watch Gunbroker and their ilk for individuals selling. Old stock shows up from estates and such. A couple boxes of 100 and she's set for life hunting.

It occurs to me that Ken Waters solved this problem a long time ago with his 7-30 cartridge.

Yeah, the 7-30 Waters was a hot item for about two years, but when's the last time you saw a new one in a gun store???
I think the Hornady 154 gr. RN went out of production about the same time the 7-30 Waters did. A quick check of gunbroker shows 4 M-94s in 7-30 Waters, and about a dozen Contenders or barrels.

If the minion isn't using a tubular magazine, any reason the 154gr interlock, interbond or sst spitzers wouldn't suffice? SD is the same and BC is much, much better.

Low velocity low recoil load . RN is more assured expansion as velocity drops at range.

I usually have the opposite problem. I wound up dialing the 154 ssts back to 2600 in an effort to get an actual exit wound with the 7x57. You shoundn't have to track what you shoot, but oneday you will and two holes are always better than one...blackeagle603 wrote:Low velocity low recoil load . I haven't tried the SSTs yet, I'm hoping that there's a better alternative.
On the plus side, the junior minion did very well with the .22LR this morning. (The morning hunt was pretty lame. It's not warm enough to make the bait buckets ferment enough to be really stinky,) She liked both the 120 gr. loads, and the 154s in big sister's rifle, but thought that the 140 gr. loads were a bit much. And admitted it, which surprised me.
We got one medium-sized pig on the ground, and she helped field-dress it, and only threw up once!! I'm really proud of the little twerp, but don't tell her I said that! And I'm really proud of the Senior Minions, they've spent a lot of time and effort coaching the little one, and it was easy to see. She did herself proud!!!

So they were coming apart inside the beastie?dialing the 154 ssts back to 2600 in an effort to get an actual exit wound with the 7x57.
