I want a Saiga-12 in a bad kind of way now. I hope like heck that they aren't a DD by the time I've got the scratch to throw at one. :(

I saw them trying to sell that thing on Gunbroker several weeks ago when Saigas were selling out everywhere. It didn't seem to be getting much in the way of bids, so I'm not surprised that they still have it. Either that, or somebody actually made more than one of them.

POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON

A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

Netpackrat wrote:Good news/bad news emails on Monday with regard to my 10 round mags... I got a ship notice from MAA for the 3 I had ordered from them, but Centerfire systems still doesn't have the ones I ordered a month ago, and still doesn't know when they are going to get them. Once I have the MAA order in hand, I am probably going to cancel Centerfire, even if I end up (back) ordering more of them from someplace else.
I'm not sure what to think of the latest development in my mag saga... I got a box of 10 round magazines in today... From Centerfire. Seems they replied to my nasty email on Monday morning, saying they didn't have any, and then shipped them to me later the same day. My first thought was that the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing, but upon close examination of the mags, I am not so sure. Reference this photo, that I found on another forum:

Looks like I bitched loudly enough that they dug up some first generation magazines and sent them to me. I'll know for sure when my order from Mississippi Auto Arms arrives. I'm not sure what other differences there may be, but the Gen 1 magazines have a smaller front locking tab, which is the part that has been known to break, at least in the 12 round version. They increased the size of the tab in the Gen 2 mags to prevent this from happening, although what they really need is metal reinforcement like the Izhmash mags have, but none of the US mags do except for the MD-20 drums.

First impression is that they kind of suck. They are even more difficult to lock in place loaded with a closed bolt than the Izzy factory mags, and they don't feed 3" shells properly, at least not the first few off the top when fully loaded. They seem to be okay with 2-3/4" shells. They deformed the mouths of a couple 3" shells I tried to run through them. And of course, they hang way down and are kind of heavy when loaded. I expected this, of course, and I will probably end up cutting them down to hold 8 rounds (you can do that with surefires), which is pretty close in overall size to a standard 30 round AK-47 rifle mag. I may end up just saving them for the range, and sticking with the Izzy 5s for serious purposes.

I know Chris likes his AGP mags, but I'm not convinced that those are the answer, either. I probably would have ordered them instead of the SGMs except AGP didn't have any in stock, wanted to screw me on shipping anyway, and I couldn't find anyplace else to order them (I've since discovered Carolina Shooters' Supply, and they carry them). On the other hand, I think I've read about just as many issues people have had with the AGPs (broken tabs, broken mag springs, defective feed lips, etc.) as the Surefires. The general consensus over on Gabe Suarez's forum is that ALL the US mags suck, with the exception of the MD-20 drum, which has limited application beyond range use. The Izhmash 8 rounders are apparently the best there is, but due to import bullshit, they are not generally available in the US, and don't change hands for much less than $125 each.

Anyway, my other mag order should arrive in the next couple days, and I'll be sure to note any differences.

Yeah, it'll run $80-$100 but I just need two of them; and I'm willing to pay for quality and utter reliability and indestructibility.
That would be great, but they could make a huge improvement just by molding metal locking lugs into the mags like the Russians do. A company called US Palm apparently did it for their AK mags, and in so doing, created the ONLY reliable US made mag for the AK rifle in 7.62x39. At least, according to the people on the Suarez forum, I haven't personally tested them.

Looky here...

Edit to add: They also claim to be developing an 8 round box magazine for the Saiga. Looks like it will be metal.
