Re: Rossi 92 Range Report
Never tried a Rossi (that is a nice looking rifle), but I did get to use a Cimarron or Uberti in .45LC at the indoor range a few years ago. Lots of fun. My next centerfire rifle (don't have any at the moment, because reasons) is likely to be a levergun in either .30-30 or a pistol caliber.

Re: Rossi 92 Range Report
Been thinking I might want the Mare's Leg version of this in .45 Colt (which I already reload for), get it threaded to accept my Octane 45, and file a Form 1 on it so I can install the regular stock.

The other nice thing about these 92s being newly-made is that you don't feel quite as bad getting them Gunkoted if you don't like your current finish. I have wanted to get my stainless 92 done up in a nice flat, inconspicuous color of some kind, preferably for hunting.

Re: Rossi 92 Range Report
Ordered the Ranch Hand in .45 Colt tonight. Saw that Bud's had it for under $400... I'd have sworn it was about $100 more than that when I looked a few days ago. They seem to be going for $450-$500+ on Gunbroker. My gunsmith friend was already in their system, so it was pretty simple. Once I get it, I will take it to the range to test fire and make sure it works OK, and then take it back to him for threading. Looks like the mag tube will need to be shortened slightly, so I may lose a round of capacity. Once I know it works OK, I will also submit a Form 1 on it.
Buffalo Bore says it is good for their +P ammo, although I think it will see mostly standard pressure/subsonic.

Re: Rossi 92 Range Report
Also, can one or more of you guys with a full stocked Rossi 92 please measure from the top of the butt, to say the front edge of the receiver? I can measure my barrel from that point, and add the two dimensions to get the overall length for filling out the Form 1. Thanks.

Just measured mine, 19" from top of butt to front of receiver.

Re: Rossi 92 Range Report
Thanks for the confirmation, given that I based the overall length for my Form 1 submission on the 19" length.
They say that having the stock together with the handgun is streng verboten until after the form is approved... Yet they require you to list dimensions on the form as though you actually have the item assembled for measurement. Fortunately from what I understand, updating the configuration of an SBR is as simple as writing ATF a letter describing the changes. I probably will use the Boyd's stock instead of a factory Rossi anyway, but at least the number I gave them is based on something other than a WAG.

Re: Rossi 92 Range Report
I took it to the range last weekend with the new Marble's tang sight on it. I liked it. I didn't shoot a lot, but it seemed to group OK.
I do need a taller front sight post now, though. I had to move it to the top to get it on at 25 yards, so anything farther out will be a problem. This front sight post looks really wide in it. Windage adjustment was no trouble.
Accidentally, sorta bought a Ruger Blackhawk in .357 with a 9mm cylinder to go with it. Shot that just a bit, too.
It was a bit late and I was tired, so I didn't spend a lot of time with either one.
The most fun part of the trip wasn't shooting them myself, though. There was a group of three there - father, older son, younger son. I could hear the youngster (10 y/o?) asking his dad about my guns, so I invited the group over to shoot them. I had them shooting .38 in the carbine and I put the 9mm cylinder in the Blackhawk. Many grins, and the dad had the older brother take a video of the youngster shooting the Blackhawk, saying, "This oughta piss his mom off!"
I need to find some newbies or minions. I find I often have more fun watching happy grins on people shooting my stuff than I have shooting it myself.

Note to self: start reading sig lines. They're actually quite amusing. :D
