I tried him first (after seeing this) but apparently he's not open on Mondays.

I tried them next. Nora was just great. She knew right off that there were different firing pins available. I scanned the pieces I have, and faxed the result to her. She dug around until she found what I needed.

It ended up costing me $38 for the 2 parts, plus $9.50 shipping. I got 2 of each, so I ended up with $85.50. Needless to say I'm not thrilled about spending that much to fix a $300 gun that was DOA, but... C'est la vie. I'm sure I'll enjoy it once I get it fixed...

For clarity, I think the price was fair, especially given that these parts are apparently rare as frog-hair, sane women or mature Democrats. I'd gladly recommend the folks to anyone needing rare parts...

Cool! They're good folks, and I've had good luck dealing with them in the past. They once found a safety for a Bersa .22 that nobody else had even heard of.

Good you got your parts. I re-formated my disc and lost a lot of favorites and Jack First was one I completely forgot about. I noticed on Numrich that there were two FPs, one for a couple bucks or so and the other for mucho more.

Question:

Any reason I should not dry-fire this pistol?

Apparently the FP was broken in 3 pieces - she said the replacement is about 1/2 inch longer than the 2 pieces I had, it woudl appear the 1/2 is missing from the tip of my FP.

I can't see how that happened - dry-fire or no.

Any input?

I'd guess you'd be OK, if you use a snap-cap. The firing-pin-spring's energy has to go somewhere - might as well use it up on something harmless, rather than stressing the parts.

Not altogether an unusual occurrence, poor FP design.
Too many makers use a sharp square cut when making FP shoulders which become a focus for failure, the parts tend to crack and break off right at the sharp juncture.
Most designs of more modern manufacture use radiused FP cuts.

Some years ago, my grandfather and I were having these issues with the Wilkinson Arms "Sherry" .22 auto's. We contacted the company and received the 'new and redesigned' FP's and breechblocks after some chatting and design explanation with their owner/engineer. Suddenly no more problems.
