Thanks.
Sorry. I did not attend. Higher Priorities intervened. My Grandson came from Woodland Hills for a visit.

Short version. Payson, AZ. 23 attendees, 16 came back on Sunday. One Rifleman (scored 210 or better). Considered a success. Next Arizona Appleseed Nov 29-30 at Ben Avery. I won't be able to attend due to our annual SOCAL Thanksgiving excursion.

Make sure you let me know if you have time to go out for a drink while you're here!
And may I say, from a moral point of view, I think there can be no justification for shoving snack cakes up your action.

The Big Brown Truck of Happiness arrived today! :D

The bolt carrier and gas key are on backorder.

Everything looks good. Started assembly, took a few pictures, had to go to work. :(

Will attempt to complete the assembly tonight when I get home. Anyone have a bolt carrier I can borrow for a bit????

Update: :D :D :D

Took a drive across town on Friday morning. Probably 60-70 miles round trip. Picked up an LMT Bolt Carrier Group. Got home, flushed it with wd-40 (no comments, it what was handy to flush away some of the grease and provide some lube). Dropped it in and everything cycled the way it was supposed to. Dry function checked good.

3 magazines purchased a month ago at a ELGS, one works great, one sorta works, one does not latch into place - but does work good if used as a rest... that is it feeds nicely.

That last statement probably gives it away. I went out and did a live fire function test this morning. It all worked great, with the noted exceptions above.

1 Magazine works perfectly.

Attached is a pdf of 1 of the groupings I shot this morning. 4 Shots, 50 ft. I was shooting off a rest, but not working seriously on accuracy. Looks like this barrel will easily outshoot me.

Dropped the lower off the upper and ran the boresnake down the barrel. Sprayed down the bolt carrier group with CLP and shot the innards with same. Left things pretty wet with lube for this session. Lubed the recoil buffer. Pinned it back together and that was when I shot the group depicted.

Fired about 25 more rounds, locked the bolt open and ran the boresnake once more and about 15 more rounds downrange at about 25 yards.

Still need to manipulate the front sight a bit more to get the rear sight into a mid-range. First shot was 4 inches low at 50 feet. Rear sight did not go high enough to correct.

Overall thoughts. I am quite pleased. This is my first real exposure to the AR. I did put a few rounds downrange last year at Rumpshot's Revenge II with Chris' build, but that is all I have ever down with an AR. To reiterate, I am quite Pleased. :D

As for Blackthorne Products. I am satisfied, or will be when the bolt carrier/gas key comes in. They could be more user friendly and communicate better with the customer. I did note they have a full page ad in the latest Shotgun News.

I have got to get packed for the rendezvous next weekend. Will do some detail cleaning tonight and locate all my stripper clips and get them filled.

Going to be fun at RR III. :D

For anyone considering it, if you are mechanically inclined and understand firearms, I recommend building your own AR. Buy an upper- but build the lower yourself. Its not hard, and you'll know the mechanism pretty well.

+1

It takes awhile the first time, but with a short list of tools, you can do quite well.
If you are unwilling to give another man freedom in his life, do not expect to have it in your own.
It surely beats trying to figure out what the metrosexuals want ( a good hard kick in the nuts in my opinion, but that won't sell ice cream :D )- Highspeed
