That's the idea. I have the free Surefire app on my iPhone for that reason. How loud are they?PawPaw wrote: It would be simple to use an IPSC timer (there's an app for that) to time your re action times.

It's just a primer popping. Not that loud, but plenty loud enough to trip the timer. Hearing protection is not mandatory on our ranges for adults, but is advised.

How do you get around laws regulating the discharge of firearms inside of city limits and the like. I don't know what the laws are where you live, but even in super gun friendly Arizona there are laws regarding the discharge of firearms inside city limits. I would suppose that shooting at the organized competitions would qualify under the range exemptions, but this does not cover shooting at your house. I personally don't have an issue with what you are doing and think its safe, but that might not save you from some asshole neighbor.

Personally, for me, I don't live in the city limits. It's perfectly okay for me to shoot in my backyard as long as I don't damage neighbors property. And, in this case, especially the picture above, that was the neighbor. Dad was standing just outside of camera view. But, it breaks no laws that I am aware of.Kommander wrote:How do you get around laws regulating the discharge of firearms inside of city limits and the like. The Association, for having sanctioned shoots inside a municipality, has to get a permit, just like any other organized activity. The association has videos on their websites that can be captured for use in presentations before governing bodies, and we're not above setting up a small portable range outside and inviting the governing body to come see for themselves. We've held sanctioned events in county fairgrounds, city parks, tourist areas, and even one that I'm aware of inside a casino. Each club is required to be NRA affiliated, and we piggyback on the large club insurance policy that the NRA makes available to us. (I'm not sure, but I think it's $325.00 per year for $1 million in liability insurance.)
Clubs are responsible for any damage that might occur during a shoot, and we actually had to shut down one range at Texas State last year, because we had wax "getting out" from the range proper. As it turned out, there was a problem with one layer of archery netting (yeah, a hole that no one had seen previously). We added an extra layer of netting, and continued to shoot. The property owners were pleased enough with our activity that we're conducting a larger shoot this April at the same venue.

She, and a bunch of us will be shooting at Stockyard Station in Fort Worth in April.

If anyone is in town, come watch. Ask for Major D (my CFDA alias).

New video out from the CFDA Nationals championship last month. Jamie Damrel (Plain Jane) is the new CFDA National Champion. This match was shot in the city park of Pagosa, CO. If you watch the videos notice the cars driving behind the range.

I happen to know Jamie. Her husband does custom leather work and they were one of the first couples that we met when we got into the organization. My gal has two of his rigs and prefers them to others.
