If you think you may want a red dot at some point, buy the standard version, and when you are ready, send the slide to somebody like Mark Housel for milling.
I would like to know more. About the failed concept. No dog in the fight, but I have looked at a Glock 40 and thought "Neat!"
The problem is they wanted to make it so you can use multiple optics with different mounting specs. So they used an adapter plate between the slide and the optic, and offer different plates for different optics. Sounds good in theory, but the thickness of the adapter plate makes it so you cannot get a co-witness with normal suppressor height sights. Even so, they still milled deeper into the slide than you normally would for a red dot conversion. And to make the plate as thin as possible, they used little bitty screws to hold the plate to the slide. There have been reports of the plate departing the slide, optic and all, under recoil.

The best way is to just choose a good optic, and have your slide milled for that specific optic, like so:

This isn't who did mine, but if I were to do another one, I would send it to this guy:

Gaston is doing some things right, and even though I'm not a Glock fanboy, I'm starting to pay attention.

My buddy Firearm Patriot says that the Glock 42 is the best .380 pocket pistol he's tested. He is saying that this little pistol is specifically designed for the new shooter. It's not so small that it's hard to operate, but it's small enough that it's easy to conceal.

And, I see that the Naval Special Warfare Center has adopted the Glock 19.

The only problem with that statement, is it is not a pocket pistol. I tried the 42 on for size (along with a number of other choices) when I was shopping for a new pocket pistol earlier in the year, and it was just too big. Were that not so, I would likely now be "all Glock" for my carry pistols. I ended up buying a 442 J frame to fill the pocket niche.
