The .45 Colt version is CA-approved, but the .45 ACP/.45 Colt isn't. Is it just because it's too new to get approval, or is there another reason that I don't get?
Yeah, it's California's scheme to make guns too much of a PITA to buy in the state.

Change one thing, be it caliber, barrel length, or color of the frame, and it's a totally different gun and requires a totally different "safety" evaluation and testing and approval.

God, I hate California.

Wonder if it would be possible to get a dual-purpose cylinder fitted to one of the older Redhawk .45 Colts?

Well, the .45 Colt version is legal in Commiefornia, which is one of the reasons I was pondering the acquisition of the modified cylinder.
