Here's the #5 grandson, who is, apparently, the only grandson with an interest in shooting. He, his mom and his sister were in town last weekend for another grandson's graduation, and we managed to con mom into letting us sneak off to the range for a little bit Saturday morning. The only bummer was that his dad, who is the family's token [strike]jarhead[/strike] Marine is currently deployed and couldn't join us.

Good looking little guy. How old? (My guess is 8 or so.)

He's 9 and a bit, will be 10 in September. Originally, his mom had said no shooting before age 10, but they will be back in Hawaii as of 01 Aug., so I guilt-tripped her into letting us go a little early. Was totally worth a little groveling!!

The only downside was that his dad couldn't be here for it, since he's somewhere off the North African coast on the Iwo Jima.

I guess I'm pretty lucky as far as minions go. Don't think I could have had a better bunch if I'd picked them myself (in fact, I'd probably have done much worse).

And yeah, keeping the shooters in ammo is a pretty small price to pay.

I know I'd be proud as hell if grandpa sent pictures of a minion getting their shooty goodness on while I was deployed! Good on ya! Gonna be a couple of years yet, but SWMBO is already onboard with bolt-action .22lr as a 5th or 6th birthday present, depending on maturity.

+1 on that. Anytime I can get an hour in shooting with the grandkids is a day spent in heaven.

Yesterday, senior son, senior minion and I cobbled together another wax bullet target in his metal shop. The electronics should be in on Friday, and we can start holding family matches in the backyard.



Saturday, we're taking one of the middle minions to Texas for a club shoot there. He needs to get certified on one-hand shooting, and no one in our club is authorized to do that. (We're a brand-new club). Luckily, Milady likes this hobby and is driving the train on getting people certified.

Put them to work trimming cases, running a press, etc

I've done that with The Senior Minions, one resizing and de-capping, the other trimming, deburring, and checking in the case gauge (alternating every 25 cases). We haven't gotten to the primer/powder/bullet phase yet. And thus far, we're only doing their rifle brass.

They do a good job, (Poppa, not being a trusting soul, checks everything before it goes in the tumbler) but it seems like they're having way too much fun for it to be considered work!

And here he is shooting my left-handed AR. (I've got to get a right handed .22LR conversion kit.)

He thought this was really cool, as well. Now he wants to shoot the right-handed one with "real" ammo.

18-year-old Minion running a Uberti 1873. He's leaving for college in August, and I'm sure I won't see much of him, but while he's here, we'll shoot together.
