One would hope that while acting in an official capacity representing your company at a public event, telling prospective customers "I hate motherfuckers like you", would be a career limiting, if not ending, move.

and yet, routinely, it is not. Very often those hubritic individuals are skilled at kissing up the chain of command and making think every success is from their effort and industry connections.

I used to work with a guy who said, "A mistake caught is a mistake forgot." But, I like your guy, too.

In high school, I had a wood shop teacher who used to say it wasn't the mistakes you make, but how well you cover them up. I find that doesn't necessarily translate well to aviation, however.

Italy, 1995:

My supervisor: "Where are your cannon plug pliers, Soup?"

Me: "I lent them to you when you went to reset the feel & trim assembly on 6044, boss. I was the one you ordered to take out the toolbox on the D Truck."

My supervisor: "Then where are they?"

Me: "They're in the last place you had them."

My supervisor: "Okay, I reattached the cannon plugs and closed the panel, then signed off on the forms to close the panel."

Me: "And where did you put them after to you reset the plugs?"

My supervisor: "On top of the feel & trim assembly."

Me: "On top of the feel & trim assembly on 6044... which just took off for Bosnia."

My supervisor: "This is your fault."

Me: "I can't even put a pair of pliers up there without a ladder."

Production Super: "You're losing your Panel Red X orders for this, Joe. Soup, don't lend your tools out to your supervisor anymore."

Me: "Right, Chief."
Remember, folks, you can't spell "douche" without "Che."

Years ago when I was still on the JAL contract, a co-worker who was locking out a valve on top of a JT-9 accidentally dropped a socket. tink, tink, tink, tink..... We spent hours looking for it, on the ground below the engine, fishing all over into crannies with magnets, blowing all over with compressed air in hopes of knocking it out, etc. By the time I finally found it, the crew had been sent to the hotel due to crew rest, and we had to tow the airplane elsewhere to free the spot. Later on in the office, I told the guilty party "don't forget to stop by Sears on your way home and get me a new socket."

For some reason, nobody else found any humor in that statement.

"Anybody can do it right, it takes genius to recover from a xxxxxup." Old aircraft tooling shop saying.
And:
"So you are saying he snuck that by inspection, what will the results be? The ejection seat will be at most about twenty feet to the right of the aircraft center line at the top of its trajectory if the pilot ejects straight and level.......Sigh, we'll cross our fingers and let it go."
