Nah, that's not a good idea. They're pretty good at baiting pigs, which doesn't work out too well for the pigs.

Don't encourage the little hellions!!!! Between rifles, ammo, and hunting trips, I can't afford to post bail for them, too!!Darrell wrote:All the better.First Shirt wrote:Nah, that's not a good idea. They're pretty good at baiting pigs, which doesn't work out too well for the pigs.

Hey First, here is a link to J&G Sales latest sales. They currently have "mini Mausers" in stock in both left and right hand actions. .223 and 7.62 x 39. I know it is not what you had in mind, but take a look anyway.

Re: Rifle Project
One of those in .223 might make a cool re-barrel project to .300 Blackout. If they are anything like the size of my CZ, it's a slightly more appropriate sized action for the cartridge than the Model 7 that AAC sells.

Re: Rifle Project
Well, the rifle project is on a brief hold.
After finding out that Sharpshooter Supply no longer stocks the parts I need, I was bracing to call Savage, when my neighbor across the road called. Seems he and his Missus had been out back (they have a 100 yard range behind their house) and she was having problems getting comfortable with his Ruger M-77 .270. He asked if I could come over and offer some coaching.
Turns out that she's a lefty, and she's trying to run a right-handed bolt from the left shoulder. The gyrations were reminiscent of a monkey riding a bicycle, and she couldn't hit the ground with the rifle unless she dropped it, and she'd probably have to drop it twice.
So, like an idiot, I asked the stupid question: Why don't you just get a left-handed gun? She didn't know they made them left-handed! I trundled home, grabbed the project Savage and a box of ammo, brought it back and let her try it.
After three shots, she turned to her husband and said, "Buy this gun. Now."
I sold it for what I had in it, so I'm pretty pleased and she's delighted. (He's not too happy, he was planning on getting a .300 Win Mag to replace the .270. Ooops!)
But I found another project gun on Gunbroker, a lefty Savage M-11, 7mm-08, blind mag and top bolt-release, and it comes with a .308 barrel as well. Just got to get it here from Vermont. And it cost less than the one I'd just sold!
And SM1 has asked if I could change hers over as well, so now I've got two project guns. Remind me again, why do I have minions?

You did a good thing, getting the woman a rifle she can use, and he don't need a .300 Magnum for anything in Alabama.First Shirt wrote:After three shots, she turned to her husband and said, "Buy this gun. Now."

+1. Good on you!PawPaw wrote:You did a good thing, getting the woman a rifle she can use, and he don't need a .300 Magnum for anything in Alabama.
PS: I don't like .300 WM (nasty, noisy, poky, expensive)
