This is generally how it goes on gun broker. A bunch of people trying to sell guns at vastly inflated prices with zero bids to show for it. Undercutting the competition seems to be a foreign concept to them.evan price wrote:Many are asking $400-$600; some are much higher. All with zero bids. This has to me been typical if the market.

Re: S&W Victory
Right now is a good time to be buying revolvers. The ccw wave is driving the market for comfortable concealable semi autos. Old Colts and Smiths are reaching stupifying levels of cash for the premium collectables. I've seen Pythons well over $3000 lately and nice N frame smiths over $1500. Boxed NIB models are where investors are dumping cash.skb12172 wrote:Good to know, though my bank account won't be as grateful! Like I said, mine is in very good shape, Lanyard ring, grips, finish, and all.
Old, carried & shot revolvers at not pulling what they used to. There was a price spike last year but I think so many people gorged themselves in ammo and AR rifles and tactical black polymers in the past two years they softened the market temporarily on non Magnum, non-ccw revolvers. They will never be as cheap as they were. But they will never be as cheap as they are again either.

Good to know. I am looking for another .38 snub.

Well, snubs are good ccw guns and prices on them are holding steady. The bigger service size revolvers are where the deals are. If you like 4"s or bigger, now is pretty good to look. There really aren't many LEOs using them anymore. Prisons and armored car companies are about it. Its like 8mm Mauser bolt action rifles- They were cheap and plentiful...until they weren't any more.skb12172 wrote:Good to know. I am looking for another .38 snub.

As promised, pictures. Dealer couldn't get hold of the owner so I paid the $400. Few interesting things: first, the gun has been reblued as I said BUT the cylinder has a reddish tint to it which is intriguing, second, on the backstrap I found the markings U.S. Navy. So it was a military gun after all. Dealer gave me a half price discount on a box of Remington 148 grain wadcutters, I thought they were a fitting round for the gun.

Might be cold blue on the cylinder?

What caliber is stamped on the barrel?
Smith cylinders sometimes react to blueing by turning a plum color instead of blue black like the frame.
Navy marked is a premium price usually. Not bad at all!

It's marked .38 S&W Special Ctg. and I kind of like the contrast. Took the grips off and can see why it was reblued, LOT of pitting on the frame. After reading in the S&W book, I think $400 wasn't such a bad deal. Now to wait for the rain to stop so I can range test it with the 148 grain wadcutters.evan price wrote:What caliber is stamped on the barrel?

Well done!
I thought .38 special and .38 S&W were two distinct cartridges. What does .38 S&W Special mean?
