If I had intelligence, personality, character, and rich parents....I'd like to think I'd still go for an expensive "shooter" rather than a safe queen.

Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, and Nighthawk all make 1911s in the 3 to 5K range.. And their worth every penny.

Er... They're OK guns. Ed Browns are good, ymthe others are not comparable to what SVI will build for the same money

I think SVI came out of STI. It's a more complicated "modular" design 1911. Nice if you want a race gun.

IMHO, the Wilson and Les Baer stock 1911s are about as close as you can get to a USGI 1911 or 1911A1 - Simple and about as reliable as you can make a 1911.

SVI and STI both build single-stacks as well. (Brandon Strayer was the "S" in STI. Virgil Tripp is the T, but, TMK, just makes really nice single stack magazines these days.)

So does Benny Hil, and Akai.

Keep in mind, What I was referring to was production guns. Personally, if I was looking to spend that kind of dosh on a 1911, I'd start looking at who does good work, and consign myself to waiting. Cunningham springs to mind, but it would probably be an 18 month wait.

And STI makes the best 1911 under a grand. The Spartans make the Springers and the Kimbers look like the corner cutting bastards both have turned into.
