The gunshop guy said something similar when he took mine out of the box. Evidently it is some kind of anomaly for a CZ.Highspeed wrote:Nice stock you have there, CZ make pretty good guns but their stocks often seem to be made from recycled packing crates ( exaggeration for purposes of humour)

CZ used to be known for nice wood stocks, on some models at least. My 452 Lux and 452 American both have nice walnut stocks. Turkish walnut, I believe.

Nice rifle , 7.62 x 39 is an intersting cartridge. The 308x1.5 that Barnes developed got me intersted in the small package 308s , and they seem to develop power and accuracy out of proportion to their size.
Keep us posted as you develope loads for it.

Re: Range Report: CZ527M (7.62x39)
I swung by the big C store today and bought 3 more boxes of ammo to test for groups next time I take it to the range. PRVI FMJ, Hornady Z-max (they didn't have any non-zombie Hornady ammo in x39), and I think Herters brass case FMJ. I've already got lots of steel case ammo to try with it, maybe 6-8 factory loads total counting what I bought today. It's too bad the PRVI soft point load is round nose. I'm not sure what they were thinking with that. FMJ loads are fine but I would prefer soft points for this rifle.
Couple other things I need to find, are a sling (probably will go with another Brownell's Latigo Sling), and the QD scope cover needs new rubber bands.

I have a 452 American with a Tiger Maple stock. In fact, I bought it because of the stock.Darrell wrote:CZ used to be known for nice wood stocks, on some models at least. My 452 Lux and 452 American both have nice walnut stocks. Turkish walnut, I believe.

Funny you mention that. I always assumed my American's stock is walnut. It looks nothing like the Lux's, though--the Lux has that chocolate milk walnut look. The American looks...walnutty I guess, in indoor light, but in sunlight it just lights up like fire. Perhaps it's not walnut at all.morsetaper wrote:I have a 452 American with a Tiger Maple stock. Humph. Looks like Uncle Mike's quit making that style of cover entirely a few years ago. But I did find that Butler Creek still makes a flip-up cover to fit them. Good thing, since I have 3 different Widefield scopes, and only 1 cover set that is still functional.Netpackrat wrote:Couple other things I need to find, are a sling (probably will go with another Brownell's Latigo Sling), and the QD scope cover needs new rubber bands.

That looks just like mine! (Note to self - check safe is locked!)
Happy shooting and well wear...
The Redfield scope looks good. My Vortex Viper 2-7x that I want to put on my CZ527 is still languishing at CC's place. Maybe I should go pick it up
It's not so easy to find a decent scope that is not oversized for these little rifles. I think a Docter red-dot sight would be the bee's knees... though the iron sights would probably have to come off (at least the front hood) - I must look for another one of those.
I made some hunting loads for mine by buying a 50-box of Sellier & Bellot 7.62x39 match ammo, and replacing the bullets with S&B .311 softpoints in the same weight. They work find, accuracy-wise, though I've yet to see the results on game. This is the rifle I use for searching through brush, or in-and-out of vehicles, as it's short , neat and doesn't get hung up on everything.

Re: Range Report: CZ527M (7.62x39)
I measured bullet diameter of all the ammo I had on hand, and here is what I came up with; the latter 4 are all steel case Russian ammo:
PRVI FMJ .310"
Herters FMJ .311" (brass case, Czech production)
Hornady Zombie Max .310"
Silver Bear JSP .311"
Wolf HP .309"
Wolf FMJ .309"
Golden Tiger FMJBT .310"
And as noted previously Federal American Eagle had .310" bullets, while Winchester JSP (hunting ammo in the silver box) used a .308" bullet.
All were measured with a dial calipers as close to the case mouth as I could get it. The one exception was the Golden Tiger, which had some sort of thick sealant there, so I ended up pulling a bullet from one, to get an accurate reading. I hope to test all of the rest of the ammo listed above for groups, soon.
