A talented gunsmith over here was converting .223 BLR's to take 30 round AR magazines, for one of our 'Practical' target shooting disciplines where fat old civilians dress up as Rambo and run around pretending to be in the military.
Nice idea, but the fat old civilians couldn't stomach lever action rifles and went with crippled single shot M4's instead, because that way they could better pretend they were Blackwater.

I'm surprised that nobody has proposed a lever-action bullpup as a solution to get those long high capacity magazines out of the way.

Allegedly, there is a picture of one somewhere on the web, but I can't find it.

Now THAT'S the kind of rifle I was thinking of, except with a little more capacity, and a little less price!!

Thanks for all you responses. I now have some options to look at for my next purchase!!

I love my Browning BLR, in .358 Win Mag and my wife's in 7mm-08 for moose and deer hunting...accurate, quick shooting, quickly reloaded and just a little more the an Winchester 94...Oh, and it will except scope mounts...

Will handle calibers like .450 Marlin, .325 WSW, .300 WSW with ease

40 bucks from Numrich. But as a hunting rifle it is not likly that I would need a quick re-load after five shots. (I admit there were a couple times.)
