40 is basically dead these days - the increased performance of the new generation of defense ammo means you dont see a significant improvement in performance till you step up significantly in size/power level, like 10mm or 45acp +p, and then you have to deal with a larger gun with lower magazine capacity, for a performance level that is way more than necessary for dealing belligerent hairless primates. Now if you throw other wildlife into the mix, like mountain liins, wolves or Grizzlies, thats another story..

Just gonna leave this here, for your perusal.

My issue with .40 in a gun as small as the Shield is the significant delay in aimed follow up shots, increasing cost of ammo and the slow death of .40 as a caliber.
I own a Glock 22. I am more accurate with it than with my Glock 17; but only in super slow single shot mode. Pick up the pace and the 17 runs away with it. Way more pronounced in a smaller platform.

Informative thread. I always liked .40, but I've only shot it through full-sized pistols (Glock 22, Ruger P944).
