Okay, been building a couple of custom ARs for a client, as well as one in for checkup/rebarrel.
Took em out to function test them yesterday.
First up, M4 style upper, stuck it on my A1 lower.
Lightly tuned (not done), it ran like a scalded cat.
Second up, client built Spikes M4. Dropped a Wilson barrel and gas system in it.
Odd, there's recoil.
Not 'fun' to shoot.
Need to get the gas block dialed in, see if that helps.
Too many cruddy parts slapped on it. Not unsafe, just a Rooney gun.
Third, AR10. Testing before final work/version, to get it broken in and show bearing surface marks.
Must install adjustable gas block!
Must install brake!

That hurt.
My shoulder was not ready for that.
I'd make a rude comment about hard butt pads on MagPul stocks, but Dang.
Need to start looking heavily at alternative cartridges for the 15 for hunting. Shoulder just not liking the recoil anymore.
Test fire day.

I put a Miculek brake on my AR 10. Does a great job of mitigating recoil, but Holy Hannah is it loud! I don't think I'd want to hunt w. it without ear pro. When I got the scope on paper at the local indoor range, there were some unhappy people to each side of me.Whirlibird wrote:

Think he'll gladly pay for it for both his and hers.AlaskaTRX wrote:Limbsaver is your friend...Whirlibird wrote:Okay, been building a couple of custom ARs for a client, as well as one in for checkup/rebarrel.

Thanks. Haven't seen (needed) them until recently.
The FAL never felt like this.

Not only do Limbsaver products rock, but Mr Sims is also a very nice man. I met him at the IWA (European version of the SHOT show) this year, and I am currently destruction-testing one of his slings. haven't been able to break it yet...AlaskaTRX wrote:Limbsaver is your friend...
