Well, it went to a good home

Post by First Shirt »

A few months ago, I got into a flurry of foolishness, buying left-handed Savage Mk IIs. When everything shook down, I had one, The Boss had one, and Senior Minion #1 had one. Which left me with one youth model to spare. I cleaned it, lubed it, and put a decent 4X scope on it, but after I got it sighted in, it was pretty much languishing.

Until last week, when a friend, who suddenly remembered that I'm left-handed, asked me about what he should get for a first rifle for his 8-YO son, who's also a lefty. I told him what I had, and how it was set up, and offered to let him take it over the weekend, to see if his son liked it.

He called yesterday to tell me that he's either got to buy the rifle, or give me his son, since the boy ain't letting go of it. Gave him a break-even price, and he's meeting me tomorrow to give me the money.

It's a really good-shooting little rifle, and I'm absolutely tickled that it's going to someone who will try very hard to wear it out!

Nicely done Shirt! While we're still a little way off from being able to really tell handedness, our daughter does WAY more stuff with her left than her right, so it appears I might have to come up to speed on guns for wrong-handed people ;) .

Indeed. Nothing like introducing a young shooter to his first rifle.

Just gave my 37 yr old son a High Standard Hamden Citation w/LH grips. He's beyond pleased and so am I. We all have to be sure our treasures go to the ones who will treasure them also. Pass those torches while we can.

Just give me a shout! My #1 Senior Minion, like her grandmother, is right-handed, but left-eye dominant. I, and one of my son-in-laws are full on lefties. If it's supposed to work for lefties, we've probably tried it out, and know what works and what doesn't.
