The Winchester Model 12 is argueably the best pump shotgun ever made. It was discontinued, because Winchester was losing money on each one sold, because of the amount of hand fitting involved. Virtually every internal contact surface was polished or honed.

One caution--the trigger housings of both M97's and M12's are originally polished with the receivers as a unit. This leaves a razor-sharp edge on either side of the opening the trigger housing fits into. I've cut my thumbs/fingers more than once on the cursed things while re-assembling them.
I'm not old--It's too early to be this late.
