Smith & Wesson W/Magna Trigger

Post by Darrell »

A guy over at r/guns inherited a S&W .357 revolver which came with some unusual rings containing inset magnets. Turns out it was a cop's gun, equipped with the so called Magna Trigger--the ring must be worn on the middle finger, else the gun will not function. It's an early attempt at a smart gun. And the reddit thread discussing what he has:

Here's a webpage on the Magna Trigger:

It was an aftermarket conversion. There have been several of that kind of thing. A freaking disaster imho because a gun should be like a fire extinguisher- usable by anyone in an emergency.
Saw a very nice otherwise Model 19 on Gunbroker with a Magna conversion and one ring sell for under $400 recently. A shame the conversion permanently modifies the gun.
