Testing waters on trading my super vepr 308. Rifle has 21.5 inch fluted barrel with built in muzzle brake. Rifle has around 100 rounds through it. I painted the stock like a goof ball but paint can be easily removed to factory finish. Rifle comes with 2 QTY 10 round magazines and kalinka top mount scope rail and hard case.
He is looking for an NJ legal 7.62x39 AK type. I have an unfired converted Saiga that I am willing to part with since I have two other AKs in .39. Now, I know Saigas are going through the roof thanks to Hopester Dopester. The guy says he paid $1200 for the VEPR and $200 for the mount. I believe him because that is what a local shop is selling the gun for and it looks like the Kalinka mount is going for around $200 online.
Would I be a fool for trading an unfired gun that may never be imported again? My brief googlage tells me the VEPR Super is a good gun. Any contrary opinions?
My personal preference would be for a standard, square back VEPR .308 with the original style sights, that can use regular AK furniture. But the big thing is if it will take the standard magazines. I would contact CSSpecs, and ask if he knows whether the Super VEPR will accept his magazines.

I believe the Super VEPRs are the original sporting (unconverted) configuration, and other mags, such as CCSPEC will not work. Won't hurt to check, though.
I wouldn't mind having one, but not for that kind of money. I've seen prices come down on VEPRs lately.
My Robinson .308 VEPR II will accept CCSPECs mags, I have a bunch. Unlike NPR, I dig the old slant receiver.

The shitty thing about the slant cut receiver of the Robinson VEPR, is that it's a different angle than the VEPRs that were imported later on. The stocks for the newer VEPRs will fit, but there will be an ugly gap.

I love the look of the Robinson VEPR IIs--notice that there is no tacticool anything on the gun. It is presently wearing a conventional rifle scope in a traditional AK side mount, though.
The II means it has a 22" barrel. I think that also adds to the looks of the gun. I am not a fan of the K carbine version (16" barrel), I think the VEPR just looks wrong with a short barrel.
He wouldn't let me cut the stock tang to use the ACE Robinson adapter, and fit one of my stocks. So he ended up with this other one made for a newer VEPR. I think it did say it was a "K" VEPR. Pic showing the gaposis that results from putting the newer stock on the Robinson VEPR:
As you may recall from the earlier thread, we pulled the barrel out of the receiver trunnion so it could be lathe threaded.
