Sometimes it pays to be kinky with a 1911.

OK, I finally gave up trying to adapt myself to the gun as it was out of the box. It had a long aluminum trigger on it with the fancy lightening cuts, over travel adjustment, and serated face.
I had trouble getting my finger far enough on it consistently so I aquiered a Cylinder and Slide short alumium one, with a rounded face, overtravel stop, no holes. etc.
It had been a while since I detail striped and the gun is still pretty tight, a Dan Wesson bobtail. So it was something of a tiring procedure to get it back together. The only good thing was I didn't have to do any fitting on the trigger to get it to fit. It just dropped in.

I had noticed that when I took the thumb safety out that the plunger/spring assymbly didn't have a kinked spring. One of the tricks is to kink that spring in the middle so it doesn't fly out into the wilderness when you are trying to get the thumb safety back in. Well I got lazy and in a hurry and didn't put the kink in the spring..........I put the gun back together to make sure I didn't loose any more parts.
The local gunshop didn't have one in stock and their gunsmith would who probably did have one would not be in till next Tuesday, maybe. So I'm waiting for the plunger assymbly and some spare parts to come in this week.
The pistol feels better in my hand and I don't have that push to the left that I was getting when I tried to speed my trigger pull up during dryfire.

Most 1911's nowadays don't have the tweaked spring in the plunger tube.
For whatever reason, not like it takes that much effort or time.

Kind of like the recoil spring cap and it's retaining notch. Conspicuously missing from most new 1911's.

Of course with so many people nowadays not understanding that the spring's closed end goes to the rear I can see why they'd lose the cut. Much simpler to just leave it off instead of constantly fielding the "Why won't my recoil spring come out?" question.

I was expecting pictures. I'm sooo disappointed.

Glad you were able to improve the fit.

Hmmm. I like the straight and narrow on my plunger springs. ;-)

Actually I haven't seen a 1911 recoil spring plug with a notch in it since the 1980s.

On the left side of a 1911 there is a tube pinned to the frame. It contains two detent plungers for the slide lock/release and the thumb safety. Both detents are powered by the same spring.

Assuming you're not joking, he's talking about the plunger spring in the tube between the safety & the slide stop.

As for the thread title, I was half expecting it to be about holsters. Leather & tie-downs, and such...

I could have sent you six short triggers! I like longer triggers with a flat backstrap so I have changed a bunch out. Is yours a bobtail? I had a gun converted to bobtail and started shooting low with it.... Sucked.
