Guerrilla Sniper - The Target

I have received a number of inquiries about this. I want to lay out some perspectives. Some things can be made very plain...others cannot, and for obvious reasons.

When I worked out the concept, I examined all of the existing sorts of sniper schools out there. The police sniper, and the military sniper. Schools based on these methods are

1). Closed to lowly civilians,
2). Extremely focused on a certain area as in the police version, and/or
3). Geared toward a military application

Private citizens wishing to add precision rifle shooting to their curriculum were limited to watered-down shadows of the “professional” schools, or limited to some sort of curmudgeon-ized bench rest praire dog killing spree. All fine and well, but so far removed from where we thought things needed to be that we researched history.

By Guerrilla we mean irregular forces not necessarily under the official command of any general. The “guerrilla” is a civilian volunteer. Where have Guerrilla Snipers been seen before?

We see rifle armed civilian shooters in every conflict that has gone beyond the army vs. army level, and where one army has occupied another nation. Notice I am not making any “good guy” “bad guy” distinctions, but merely showing the development of events and the rise of the guerrilla sniper as a result of those events.

We saw them in the Revolutionary War. While the official British soldiers fought as a unit, the American woodsmen sniped at their officers from the cover of trees and distance. We saw them again in the Civil War...this time on the side of the Confederacy. There was plenty of that sort of thing as well during the German occupation of many parts of Europe as “Partisans” picked off a German here and there....and a collaborator here and there. We saw them again in the many “brush fire” wars of the Post WWII Cold War, and are seeing it today in place like Chechnya and Iraq.

If a private citizen, theoreticall speaking, was to use a precision rifle for real, it would be in these types of circumstances, and not as a police man or a soldier would use them.

Somew would argue that this is not realistic and quite fanciful. Well, alright...then so is every other firearm you study with other than your 5 shot snubby. If the objective is only CCW self-defense under the protection of law, then simply train pistol skills and don’t bother with anything else. However...if your goal is a complete education in the art of the gun, then it will include a study of guerrilla sniping.
The target? Oh yes...the target is the enemy. You get to define exactly what that is.
There is a certain type of mentality that thinks if you make certain inanimate objects illegal their criminal misuse will disappear!

Damn the TSA and Down with the BATF(u)E!
