As mentioned above, they needed to shoot the front of the mullet. Don't direct head shots stop the attack 100% of the time whether they kill or not?

That's why you get close and use a use a handload propelled by 2400, like say a .357 out of a 2" barrel. If the bullet doesn't stop him, you might still set his mullet on fire. This will burn his hair off and weaken him, allowing a follow-up shot that stops the formerly-mulletted miscreant in his tracks.

I'm pretty sure I read that a head shot stops them even without penetration. I think it rings their bell hard enough that they become ineffective. Like a KO punch.
