Erik, you might want to ask some gear questions, as it's a major factor in winning in IPSC these days. Last I heard, 9x23, 38 SuperComp, and 38TJ were really starting to dominate, especially the 9x23.

I'm checking it out as much as I can, and asking questions.
So far, I've just asked the guys in my club, but they all use 9x19, with one exception, who used a CZ in .40. (That's the guy with the squib)
Glock 17 seems to be most common, but there's also Tanfoglio, SVI, and probably some others too I didn't notice. I didn't see a racegun like the one in your picture, they all looked pretty standard.
I'm sure there will be some tomorrow

That appears to be a 5" compensated STI 2011 standard frame & slide. It's a double stack gun based loosely on the 1911. As far as I can tell, it's for "Open" class guns, hence the compensator and optical sight.

those are the most common ones to see here... the shooters at my club all have guns that are worth more than my car... bastards...

The weather was what was expected, raining, strong winds and cold. I was at one of the stages, keeping scores. The stage I was at was one of the more complicated ones, and it was really interesting watching people trying different ways to shoot it. It was clear that the right tactic saved several seconds.
There was only one person in open division with a racegun. I was told that licensing for those guns is really difficult to get, so there's very few doing it here, most are in standard and production. I also saw a few with revolvers.
All in all, it was a great day except for the weather, and I think I learned a lot too.

Open is an equipment race to an extent. Then you notice that pretty much everyone has the same equipment.
The rest of us weekend gamers stick with Limited and Production.
Remember, folks, you can't spell "douche" without "Che."
