Finding the time.

A lot of you know that my hobby and love is stock work. I repair, refinish and save about 100 or more stocks a year. It's a hobby that has been out of controll for a very long time.
What I find hard to do is the time to work on some of my own guns.
Well about two weeks ago I put my foot down and told myself that I had to work on one of my own guns and get it done and not take a year or more to get it finished.
So I picked out one of my Turkish Mausers, A WWI reworked German Mauser rifle called a ATF Turkish Mauser.
Here is what it looked like when I got it.

I had to repair one of the screws in the buttplate, it looked like a nail. :?

I made an electrolysis tank with a cell phone chargegr and a plastic tub and removed the rust after I had cleaned off the crud.

I then stripped the stock.

The stock is a light color Turkish Walnut, which is not that common so, I did an oil scrub and hand rubbed finish with Pure Tung Oil (PTO) and finished off with Tom's 3/1 mix.

Then I put it all back together yesterday and this is what she looks like.

I do have to say that I am very happy with the way it came out. Now to find the time to do a few more of my own guns. :lol:

You're thinking to small! I know of a guy in Georgia who likes to use 300 gallon Rubbermaid stock tanks and DC arcwelders to do derusting. :shock: Says an entire box of Arm&Hammer washing soda is about right. :mrgreen:
