Privi 8mm Mauser ammo

I picked up a box of this stuff the other day. It was not too bad of a price and I need some brass so what the heck, it could be decent for practice.

I shot through the box of it after sighting in and oh wow this stuff is absolute crap. My normal load is a real load and not wuss American 8x57 loads, but not super hot, but the PPU was still at least a foot lower. But okay, I knew it would be downloaded. The bigger problem was accuracy or the lack there of. Groups were extra large pie plate size. I was worried maybe my scope was screwed but switched back to my loads and it went back to 2 inch-ish like it was before. Only thing I can guess is they are using .321 bullets because I cannot image the loads are varying that much (and it was left, right, up, down, not just vertical).

Conclusion - if you need 8mm for anything other than just going bang, stay away.

Such has been my experience with PRVI ammo in .308 and 300BLK as well; it goes bang and the brass is good for reloading, but don't expect too much more from it. OTOH, I am a fan of their 124gr 9mm ball, because it will function my Suomi. So naturally I haven't been able to find any around here for a year or two.

Does your Suomi need 9mm ammo that's loaded to NATO spec?

I find hotter ammo helps SMG functionality if you aren't running a can.

Most likely. There's some drag present in the semi-auto rebuilds from parts that weren't in the original subguns.

I'd try S&B and WWB 9mm NATO ammo, too, if you can get it.

About the best regular box brand 8x57JS ammo I have found is S&B. They list their 196gr SPCE @ 2590fps. That's right there with 30-06 loads.

https://www.sgammo.com/product/sellier- ... -sellier-b

I have taken a couple of deer with that load, and my S.I.L shot a couple of hogs with it, one about 200lbs. He shot it thru the shoulders at about 90 yards, and he said it was DRT, with pieces of bones sticking out the exit wound.

Outdoor unlimited has the same thing for 13.50/20rd box.

I think they only have the 8x57 JRS ammo in S&B. That's rimmed ammo, for single/double rifles.

European 8x57 ammo can be confusing. You really have to watch their numbering systems. And it varies by manufacturer.

Thanks. The WWB 124gr NATO seems to work fine, so I can stop hunting the PRVI stuff.

Awesome. The WWB 9mm Nato ammo should be easier to find.
