Based on my trolling over at this thread http://theguncounter.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=844 I was wondering...
Is the .22 mag sufficient for self defense, even as a "lady" gun?
Personally, I'd rather be in the .380/9mak/.38special range as a minimum, but ymmv.
Fire away.

.22 Mag for CCW?
There must be an end to this intimidation by those who come to this great country, but reject its culture.

Sufficient, not a fan of that word.
But I'd rather have a .22 Mag that I've shot and trust than a .44 Mag I haven't and don't.
The little AMT AutoMagII's (compacts) were a decent CCW gun for those who couldn't handle a larger chambered handgun.
Fair warning, they ain't quiet.
I've carried worse, I prefer a .38/9mm or better but I wouldn't turn one down if things took a turn for the worst.
Price of .22 Mag ammo ain't cheap, not that I care about price of ammo in a defensive gun. My butts worth the cash.
I might look for one of the French (Manurhin) Walther PP's chambered for the .32acp round. I've had a couple and they've been accurate and utterly reliable little guns that are easy on the shooter. And they'll stack 'silvertips' like it's a target load.

I got Miss G&T a Bulldog Pug, it is super small and she can pocket carry even in tight jeans.

I used to carry a .22 mag 2-shot derringer as my hide-out/backup piece. The muzzle blast would do almost as much damage as the bullet.

A person properly schooled in right and wrong is safe with any weapon. A person with no idea of good and evil is unsafe with a knitting needle, or the cap from a ballpoint pen.

There is no benefit (other than increased flash) when shooting a .22MAG through a pistol, vs shooting .22LR.
You should save the money you spend on ammo and practice with it. You will want all the competence you can get, cause you'll want to be able to shoot out both of the aggressor's pupils with it.

It surely beats trying to figure out what the metrosexuals want ( a good hard kick in the nuts in my opinion, but that won't sell ice cream :D )- Highspeed

A .22 mag out of a short barrel (like my old derringer) kicks almost as bad as a .38.Joe ex PNG wrote:My sis is thinking about getting one- seems she doesn't really like her .38.

Have your sister punch the wall. Asker her if it felt worse than shooting the gun. If not, ask her if it would do the same damage to someone trying to hurt her or one she loved as the gun would.
I have shot CC's scandium 357 snubby. I didn't like it. I would still rather shoot 3 cylinders of full house 158 gr. .357 Magnum out of it, than punch someone in their bony head.

Her husband carries a Kel-Tec .32 and her brother (me) carries a .25 Browning... we're not exactly the "more power" crew, you know.

All the same, if it's recoil sensitivity, you can rationalize our way into enjoying heavier hitters.
Look at the bright side! Statistically speaking, none of you will ever find out whether it will do the job or not!
