Midway is selling Hornady 55 grain spire points (224 diameter) with cannelure in 1000 count pack boxes for $77.99. I bought two boxes for a total of $155.98. Shipping is UPS for $15.44. Total of $171.42 which works out to $0.0857 per bullet (eight-and-a-half cents per bullet) decimal point fixed by mods).
The local dealer only has the V-Max in 250 count packs for $39.95 or $0.159 per bullet. He has 100 count boxes of other weights but I prefer to buy in bulk if possible. I know it's a different bullet but for the price difference I thought I'd try them out. Half the fun of reloading is getting to try different combinations.
They also have FMJ in 1000 packs for $71.99.

Re: Hornady bullet sale at Midway
The Hornady bulk bullets do seem to have a pretty good reputation. I've heard complaints about the spire points in some ARs though; the tips can hang up while feeding.
I've reloaded a few hundred rounds with the Hornady bulk 55gr FMJBTwith cannelure; no complaints.
