I have shot both but not reloaded either. It seems both are fine per se but there are concerns with breaking the coating/plating when crimping.
Thoughts or preferences?

You can coat her own cast bullets, either powder or hi tek.
You have to buy plated
You have to buy plated

I haven't really noticed. Since it's lead underneath I don't worry either...

I do not mold my own and normally only reload with jacketed, but those are not very available nowadays....Combat Controller wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 4:47 pm I haven't really noticed. Since it's lead underneath I don't worry either...

Re: Plated or coated for pistol bullets
Heard for both that a light taper crimp or Lee collet crimp is ok; no roll crimp or too much taper as that will cut the coating/plating
I've used plated pistol bullets a fair amount; the docs that came with them tend to recommend using cast lead bullet loads, not heavier ones for actual jacketed bullets, so you tend to get lower velocities.

Re: Plated or coated for pistol bullets
So I ordered 500 of the Blue Bullets .400 165 grain coated bullets. We will see how that goes.
Also picked up 100 Hornaday 155 grain JHP - at the local merchant of death (all they had) but I think can order some more.
Should be enough to work up some loads and have some on hand for practice / emergency self defense reserve.
Update, Midway had them so I ordered another 200 of the 155 gr JHPs too.

I guess I do not understand the question, I will be loading 40 SW to 40 SW specs if that is what you mean.Combat Controller wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 9:08 pm10mm or .40 loads?Vonz90 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 2:43 am So I ordered 500 of the Blue Bullets .400 165 grain coated bullets.
