No, it doesn't. It uses the same bolt carrier, but the bolt head is different.

The case head size is larger.

The 6.8 is larger?? According to what I've read, the 6.8 is the same size as the 5.56.

That throws another wrinkle in the plan!

ETA: Nope, I was thinking of .300 AAC/Blackout! Well, crap!!!!
No, it doesn't! Stag Arms makes a lefty 6.8 upper! Now all I need is a barrel, set up for a lefty!

Yes, it is. It's .300 Blackout that uses standard 5.56 bolts.

Same bolt as the 6.8 spc. Which is smaller than the case head size of 6.5 Grendel, which seems to mean 6.8 bolts are stronger.

OK, you've talked me into it. We're gonna build Six5 uppers, and use 6.8 load data to start.

Please bear in mind that if this doesn't work, you're gonna have two little girls REALLY mad at you!

you could go with a .277 wolverine.

5.56 bolt face
.5.56 magazines
hell everything but the barrel is the same for 5.56

Then you get up to 120 gr .277 bullets and terminal ballistics is quite good up to 400 yds.
There are 4 companies making preloaded cartridges and brass is available or you can reform .223/5.56 brass.

If I wasn't so poor, I would like to set up a gun in this.

In all practicality, what ranges are they taking shots at?

For our area of hunting, a long shot is 200-250 yards, usually under 150 yards.
