One of my sisters and her husband went on a "white guilt" vacation to Haiti some years ago, doing mercy mission stuff for the locals back in the sticks. The Haitians decided to have one of their periodic revolts; sister and hubby had a harrowing time getting out of the country. They witnessed people getting hacked up with machetes, being necklaced and such. They quit vacationing in third world countries after that.

I know several people who went on Christian missions to Haiti. As far from reality as you can get in the Western Hemisphere. If your group is going to build a church or some other building, you must bring everything with you, no hardware stores there. At least, that would have what you need.

Wifey and I will prolly go to Europe next summer. Better memorize that blog...
