Man gets beaten by home invaders, comes up shooting
January 8, 2014 by Michael Dorstewitz
Three armed burglars entered a South Florida apartment Thursday night and pistol-whipped the resident inside. When the man rose to confront his attackers, he was bloody, battered — and armed with an assault rifle.
“The resident of the apartment had possession of an AK-47, and after he received this beating, he was able to get possession or control of that, and started shooting at these suspects as they were fleeing,” Davie police spokesman Capt. Dale Engle told the NBC affiliate in Miami.
One suspect was shot and killed, and the other two are on the run.
The resident was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries. He was released after being questioned by police.

Read about this elsewhere. ISTR reading somewhere that they all knew each other. Interesting situation.

Let's see here, three to one odds, and they'd already given him a beatdown...
But of course, nobody
needs an assault weapon...

Like three-day-old mackerel, this one doesn't pass the smell test.
Whatever the three armed men came there to do, burglary was likely not the purpose of the exercise.
Dollars to donuts this will turn out to have been a drug deal gone bad, or some other falling out among thieves.

No one needs an AK-47... until you do.

I have a strong suspicion that the victim "may" have been a criminal

Rats killing each other is a win/win scenerio, as long as bystanders aren't hit.

Burglary is Breaking and entering with the intent to commit a felony within. Battery with intent to cause great bodily injury is a felony, so whatever else the survivor(s) might be charged with, burglary is on the list.
Burglars who intended only property felonies generally work banker's hours, as that cuts down the likelihood of residents at home.

In Washington, you're presumed to intend to do something illegal if you enter a place.
