Mounting a retention holster to the bed

I'm pretty sure I like this idea better than the nightstand one. Both, as it provides a consistent position, and as one of the fellows I shoot with ended up fighting w. some POS over the G31 on his nightstand one night.

I think I want to get an ALS holster for it. (G-Code holsters are great, but I'm concerned about the locking hood jamming)

I usually carry in a Bianchi carry-lok holster around work, but I don't think those would work well as a retention holster for a bed.

Has anyone else done something like this?

Would a holster w. a drop make more sense? (Seems like it might be a good way to catch an ankle.)

Just use a Wilderness tactical safe packer and pinch the flap between the mattress and the box spring?

A wooden dowel rod in the barrel and attached to the frame of whatever you want to mount it to seems like the best solution I have seen.

A dog (or motion sensor) to wake you up would seem more reasonable , am I missing something .

I would be a bit leery of any plan calling for shoving a loaded weapon between mattresses and proceeding to roll around on top of it nightly, holstered or not.
It isn't likely to go off that way, but unless the failure rate is guaranteed to be 0.0000000000000, I don't think I'd risk it.

Anything that puts it handy yet out of sight, but not subject to nocturnal tossing and turning sounds like the better way to go.

Oh, I wouldn't do that - I was thinking about using a safe packer holster - which I use to attach guns to seatbelts in cars - there's a flap on it, which I would put in between, not the pistol.

I would only wedge a SAA revolver, maybe a P7, but I don't really intend to do either.

If you wake up at oh-dark-30 to find a stranger standing over the bed, your first two lines of defense have already failed.

I saw an accessory that is a "board" you insert between mattress and box spring, and then attach your holster to it. They also have one that has a belt-slide-looking holster attached already.

$17.99

$26.99

I'm not endorsing them, I have no experience with either one, but they seem like the sort of thing you're looking for.

How do you sleep? Are you a thrasher who roams all over the bed and frequently wind up far from the edge of the bed, or do you pretty much stay in one place and would have no trouble reaching down the side of the bed to the area where your gun would be? I sleep with a gun under my pillow, so I can immediately reach it from anywhere I might be on our king-sized bed.

I'm very partial to the Safepacker near the bed. My 686 lives in one. Details depending on your particular situation. (Need to get one for a 229....)

If an intruder is able to get inside your dwelling and make a play for your nightstand gun before you're even awake, you've already done several things very wrong.

I just posted in this thread and it may match what you need. Once you have a Safailand holster (models vary), buy a QLS 1 kit for $25. Affix one to your bedroom furniture / walls as you see fit. At night, just slap your holster into the mount and something something Bob and his uncle.
