A Northland homeowner grabbed his shotgun and fatally shot a man who burst into the family's garage while in the midst of a crime spree, Kansas City police say.

Good riddance.

Neighbors say there had been some break-ins recently, and they were in the process of forming a neighborhood watch but had not done so. As a result of Wednesday's trauma, shaken neighbors said that they are definitely beefing up security in their neighborhood.

I don't think they have to worry about that one fellow breaking into any more homes, but Neighborhood Watch committees are always a good idea.

Every death is unfortunate, however I cannot imagine the reverse (i.e. the homeowner dying or being seriously injured) as having as few bad consequences, so it was probably the best result possible given the deceased clearly did not have a "road to Damascus" moment earlier that day (If he had one slumped on the garage floor with what could have saved the lives of 15 humans who did not spread as much woe as he did seeping out of him is a different question).
