Friend getting creepy emails from stalker.

Post by Cybrludite »

And not "Yeah, you might want to look into getting a restraining order"-creepy, but rather "That is probable cause to get a warrant to check his crawl space for dead hookers"-creepy.
Be My Bride

I had a dream. I owned your head. I want to make love to your head. I want your eyes watching me. Do you think about me too? Do you think about me loving you? I need you. God says your mine. See you later.
Your Beautiful Eyes

God sees u. I think about your eyes. I don't stop thinking. Those eyes. I want to put them in a snow globe. I want to shake the snow globe. You have pretty green eyes. I want to watch you all day. I want to look into your eyes. I want to own you. I love you. Don't walk away from me. Your a bitch. God will get u.
I've loaned her a .38 & a clinch-pick until the guy gets picked up, or until she can get her own artillery out of storage. Frankly, those emails don't read like someone dipping their toe in the stalking pond for the first time.

Wow. Kudos on lending her some heat in a time of need. Let us know if you need a posse!

Kudos on loaning her the .38. Now go take her to the range and make sure she knows how to use it.

Remind her that a gun isn't a magical panacea; her mindset and situational awareness is the real key, the gun is just an extension of them.

I dunno, if a lady I cared about was getting e-mails like that, I'd be tempted to pay the sender a visit and apply some corrective phrenology. Then again, I'm VERY protective of the women in my life.

Definitely get the restraining order, if nothing else it provides a record of harassment should she end up defending herself against him.

Yes, definitely on the restraining order. But it's just so there's a paper trail, it doesn't actually DO anything. And you're going to want the paper trail, because this sort of thing only ends in violence. It's just a question of who's getting hurt.

Does she even know who the stalker is?

If so, the restraining order makes sense, if only to provide a legal trail afterward. If not, perhaps a bodyguard who can look around to see who is watching her.

If you don't know who it is, can you turn the emails over to somebody to backtrack through IP's or something?

If you do know, this guy needs, at a minimum, some very broken bones right now. This is absolutely not OK, and he presents a very clear danger to her that the cops cannot protect her from.

+1 on the kudos for the loan

+1 on the training suggestion

+1 on the need for very good SA

She also needs a plan for if he takes her. Regular checking in with you or someone else. Code word for duress. That sort of thing. You might want to get her carrying a blade in the small of her back just in case he gets her and ties her up. That way she might get away or take him when he's not paying attention.

This is really bad. Don't ignore it.

+1 on the blade. I would add a handcuff key somehow in the seam of her pants in the small of her back, just in case he doesn't use rope.

There's a few apps that can be downloaded to a smartphone that can be of assistance. Something that localizes the smartphone if you know the code word. I've tried "Where's my droid" and it seems to work well. Anyone with the access code can send a sms to the phone and get a gps location back. The idea is that if it gets lost, I can find out where it is, and I can give the code to anyone that I want to be able to find me if there's an emergency.
I assume there's also apps that can log where it is regularly, so if it gets shut down anyone with access will have a last known location. And provide a distress button on the phone that will send a distress message with a location if activated.

None of that is foolproof though, but could be useful.
